In class this week, we're going to spend some time talking about "The Hornet Among Us." Feel free to continue that conversation here.
Also, I'm curious about your reactions to "If You Can't Say Anything Nice, Write a One-Star Review." Which of these texts w/ one-star reviews are you familiar w/? What do you think about these reviews? (Here is another article about the same topic on Salon: https://www.salon.com/2010/04/03/mean_amazon_reviews_open2010/ w/ longer reviews). Is reviewing literature the same as reviewing any other product (packing tape, wigs)? Why or why not?
"If You Can't Say Anything Nice, Write a One-Star Review", I strongly agree with the writer and where she is coming from. Critics like to judge books by not reading it entirely, have ridiculous usernames and write unprofessionally. The last two lines of page 119 are so true. I am very familiar with "Where the Wild Things Are", the message that I got from it was about understanding how hard it is for the mother and how her son didn't get what she was going through. These reviews on Salon are as if the writers are just trolling people to get some attention; they don't know what they are talking about.
ReplyDeleteIn the text"The Hornet Among Us" is a good discriptive essay which can easily understand the readers point of view and sharing knowledge. It is also a comparitive study of human behavior and society.Related article on youtube also contribute in getting ideas of wild fierce insects and their approaches.
ReplyDeleteSalon is a good example of writing annatoted bibliography which has to increase in our writing concepts and creating notes about books, articles and film reviews.
The understanding the one star reviews are concerned with getting viewrs attention and learning ability. As you know many people want to know the storyline before reading or watching which leads them to buy and read that item and its influence their perspectives.Sometime the unusual annotation gives a great attention towards writers objective and their social values which connects them in the correction of society and communicate their voice on a big apple. Now it is essential requirement of viewers demand and their expectations which leads to their thinking and judgement in behavior and motivation.
