So what if you're stressed?

I know this is not what we are talking about in the blog, but it is something I feel should be discussed. Stress is something that as college students, we face on a daily basis. Just a couple weeks ago I was stressing to get all the components of the midterm done. Eustress or good stress is essential. It gives you that boost to get over the lump. I wanna talk about Distress, bad stress. Today is my first day off from either school or work since September 18th. I have been working and going to school this entire time and my distress has hit a critical point. All of this on my plate has me really thinking about this issue

I feel that in this day in age we promote stress. Whenever you have something going on and you tell someone about it, they either compare themselves to you or they give you a cheap resolution/pep talk. And if another person recommends me to do yoga I am going to explode!!! Some college students resort to drugs to either stay up or relax. And once we graduate and get that job we dreamed of, we will continue to recognize distress as eustress.

This would be ok but stress is a silent killer. People like myself who are in a constant state of stress commonly experience headaches, lack of energy, upset stomach or lack of appetite, lower immune system even lack of sexual desire. Their are even doctors who link artery clogging, vein thinning, even heart pain to stress. It is something we should all consider when it comes to our health.

  2. I feel stress is a big issue among most college students. For most it’s that time in there life where there just becoming independent, and trying to get a education to get a better job. A lot aren’t afforded the opportunity of not having to work and just go to school.

What I say to that honestly is just relax it’s not the end of the world. I try to minimize to my stress by just having a nonchalant about things I can’t control. As you said stress can affect your health. I realize things aren’t the end of the world and your less functional when your stress. It’s easier to find a solution when you relax.

  3. Stress can play a huge role for college students', but you should always talk with your best friends and closest family members to help you relieve that stress. It can be difficult to multitask while doing everything yourself; best is to minimize what you do and don't overload yourself.

  4. I guess stress is one of the biggest problem in human life. Some of them have stress about job, study, family, and many other. Every problem come and goes. I think the best way to get out of stress is to discuss your problem to anyone closer to you like friend or family member so, that he or she can give you some advice or solve problem.

  5. Stress occurs with all ages of 18 and older. I believe it never ends. Either its with school, work, family, bills, or spouse. Stress can become a serious effect because if your constantly stressed that stress can have an effect on your health. especially stress can turn into depression. I also agrees with Elvis, that it is good to always have a close family member or friend to talk too.

    1. I totally agree with all of your statement. Clinical depression has been linked to mental illnesses, such as anxiety disorders, panic disorder or social phobia. These conditions affect millions of Americans age 18+ and almost every aspect of life. And the best way to treat depression is to talk to someone.

  6. Yes, stress is a silent killer. Sometimes we may not know that we are even stress out and it can be happening for a long time. Stress also leads to depression. Depression is when one feels bad about themselves, hopeless or lost interest. In worse case it can make on suicidal. In time, a depression that been a long time will be harder to treat. Taking meds will help some people but it will always have side effects. So yes, stress is a first basic step for a unhealthy mental health even it doesn't seems like a big deal at first. Stress is like a silent killer that slowly hurts you when untreated.
