What strategies can we use to reduce or even end bullying !????

bullying seems to be a very big problem that society deals with and I feel like its not being spoken enough about nor do people take this subject seriously. Recently on the news a student in the Bronx was charged for fatally stabbing another classmate to death and seriously injuring another peer, he has had a history of being bullied and I guess he had enough. I'm not saying that what he did was justifiable but this comes to show that everyone has a breaking point. being bullied is a serious problem that leads to suicide and committing heinous crimes like this one. what can we do to end bullying ?! ill list down the article on more information about this

Thanks so much for sharing this article. The story we're reading next week, "The G.R.I.E.F," and the film we're viewing, Moonlight, both deal w/ similar issues. Namely, how do we learn to accept homosexuality in cultures that value a certain limited definition of what "masculinity" means. (Reportedly the killer in the Bronx filmed himself on Facebook w/ the murder weapon before the killing asking why people thought he was "soft.") Let's try to connect this recent tragedy to the story we're reading and the film we're viewing.

  2. Schools and parent's both need to be able to talk to their students/kids. They need to find out what is going on with them, what they do in school, and the most important thing is communication from the school to students and from the parents to their kids. The students/kids are probably not going to tell their parents or school about bullying. Therefore, parents and school staff need to take the approach to talk to their kids frequently about what is going on with them at school.

  3. i agree with elvis that communication with children is very important on both the parents and school. Also there should be a harder punishment for bullies and encourage students to speak out. Lastly, in my sister high school they would do activities in school and outside to allow students to get along with each other such as no gossip day, trust falls, and team work activities and most of them were mandatory to go to so I think this could help bring students together while having fun because sometimes bullies bully because of whats happening in there house hold which could relate to the movie were watching in class.

  4. yes communication is key, but some parents make it hard for their children to even open up to them or speak on how they are feeling but i really like how they would do those type of activities in your sisters school kayley.. more schools should do creative things like that

    1. yea or a felony or maybe a threat for example cops arresting the bully and going to prison for maybe a week or two so they can experience what prison is like to scare them. I'm not exactly sure but they should really do something more affective.
