Last week of poetry...
As we finish up w/ poetry and move toward creative nonfiction, I'd like us to think about some of these questions:

Poetry is different from other genres because it can have any format of writing what you want and it doesn't need to have a rhythm and it can be as long as you want. The poems that we have read are different then the poems I have read in the past because a lot of these poems have there stanzas and line really separate and then its all in one big paragraph and then it repeats to continue doing the two lines. The poem "The Antique Blacks" was longer than an poem I ever had read. "cleaning the ghost Room" is about the author is cleaning the room that believes the man, Mr.traynor who passed only three weeks ago, believes his spirit is alive in that room so she is keeping it clean for him.The author states,"Mami made me dust the ghost room as she swept the kitchen downstairs, washed the fruit shaped porcelain dishes.I objected, tearing up and shaken, clutching to the dust rag, heart pounding. She said,it builds character of high caliber, camaraderie with the spirits. You want the dead on your side." This statement also shows she is frighten because she doesn't want to get on the spirits bad side.

DeletePoetry can have different lengths, many stanzas and may rhyme. My opinion about poetry is the fact you can use many figurative languages, make the poems short and leave out questions for the readers. The poems we've read so far, most of them had to do about nature. Most of the poems I have read in the past were mainly legendary history. For "The Antique Blacks" I try to re-read each line again because this poem has different sections. Asterisks can separate lines from other; like to stand out. Each section in "The Antique Blacks" has a moment where someone is doing something or talking about what they're doing. "Cleaning the Ghost Room" is about a first-person writer cleaning Mr. Traynor's room as if he is still leaving there. "Invisible Mr. Traynor, passed only three weeks".
ReplyDeletePoetry is genre like no other. It has a way of keeping the reader guessing. It breaks grammar laws, spelling, and often times, takes many shapes and sizes. What I truly enjoy about poetry is it's ability to make readers come up with different theories as to why the author wrote what he wrote. There is no one true answer. It can also fluctuate in a way that other the author wanted it to be; there is not standard. In "The Antique Blacks", the author shows the reader a long poem divided with really long stanzas. I believe the intention was to develop a flow or rhythm. The asterisks are used to divide sections of the poem. In essence, the poem is divided by different pieces but is still part of a whole
ReplyDeletePoetry is unique from other literature because it can be written using stanza and any way the author would like. I believe poetry is a great way to express ideas/thoughts in a creative way. The pomes that I've read in the past are different than the ones I've read in class because in the ones in the past rhymed more. The poem "The Antique Blacks" was much longer than most poems and complicated. One slang/ line that stood out to me in the poem "The Tallgrass shuffles" by sea sharp was on page 188 when the author said "ooooh girl stop playing. Lastly, the poem "Cleaning the Ghost Room" is about the author cleaning Mr. Traynor room who had past away three weeks but cleaned it like Tryanor was still alive.
ReplyDeletei agree with what you said about poetry, there are different kinds of styles within poetry back then when we were in middle school and high school we mostly read poems that rhymed because its more understandable but the poems that we are being assigned to read in class are more difficult to understand, that's where creativity and opening your mind comes into tact.

DeletePoetry can change the aspects of life with stoic composition and give strength your soul towards positive and real attitude. It is the best and shortest way to convey messages, observations, modifications and rhythm which can motivate our souls in peaceful ways. In past,I read simple poems which have soft perceptions but these poetry open my thoughts in new and complex meanings based on racism, dangers and myths. According to "The Antique Blacks" the poet describes his thoughts in detail which breaks the tempo of reading and learning but its objective is to part of our world which is suppose them in outer space.This poetry is the collection of thoughts, images and building blocks in racism which portray with their culture. It is the golden voice of Black's contribution to recall their efforts and works but nobody remember their participation and memorable history. It shuffles the memory against their race acceptance. Their claim is not objectionable because their history also makes the concept of democracy and have right to secure from enslave. Overall their expressions have command to free speech. In the other poem "The Tallgrass Shuffles" there is an image of dictator who harrass the girl on her rights and create violence in the form of racism. The next one "Cleaning the Ghost Room" indicates the false believe of dead person whose soul suppose as bad spirit. I think his family face trouble due to his severe and bad attitude.

ReplyDeleteIn the Cleaning The Ghost Room it talks about life after death. "I objected, tearing up and shaken, clutching to the dust rag, heart pounding. She said, it builds character of high caliber, camaraderie with the spirits. You want the death on your side." This emplies that something horrible had happen in the "Ghost Room". For example Invisible Mr. Traynor had passed only three weeks ago. This seems to be a huanting or eeriness in that specific room. Something to abide with this would be when mami made me wipe the mirror clean to refelect my fear up close. She had to dice into its center, see myself in its pupils. This poem leaves a huanting and eeriness unanswered.
